We know what you’re thinking: After watching the Flyers pummell the fuck out whosoever that would be so insolent as to cross them at the Wach, you cannot bear the commute to, say, Ruth’s Chris or Capital Grille. Then say hello to The Cadillac Grille, the new General Motors-sponsored “upscale chophouse” within the Wach. Weird, right? Even weirder: It might be good. Chef Brian Kanak did time at the aforemention Capital, as well as Buddakan and El Vez.
And keep an eye out for Sonam at 223 South Street. It breaks our heart to see South Street in its present, compromised and weird incarnation, and this “global dim sum” BYOB seems like a step in the right direction. (Though it does pain us to hear about “global” anything-cuisine at this late date, what is this, 1997?) Nevertheless, menu sounds good: Hamachi nachos, Buffalo falafel, Italian egg roll, and of course, the dreaded cheese steak terrine, made of cheese steak mousse, shaved filet, fried onion, mushrooms, sharp provolone whiz, fire-roasted tomato ketchup, and hot pepper duxelle. People need to stop doing things like this. Seriously. Now. [SonamBYOB]
Fishtown, you’ve been a good boy this year, and as such, Santa (we picture Santogold every time, like S could ever be a stylish songbird with beats) is rewarding you with something you desperately need: a fresh produce store a few steps from the M Room. For Cornerstone Market & Produce is no longer a dream (site pictured here). Signs are up on the building now and in addition to the roughage, there are promises of prepared foods, a deli counter, and a coffee bar. Like oh mah god. This is the most modern thing to happen here since Thriftway started offering organic fruit that is always rotten-looking and doesn’t sell.
