Already underway, Philly Beer Week is a juggernaut of events and tastings for both the serious beer nerd and casual guzzler alike. It’s also, we must tell you, more than a week long. We’re still adding Beer Week events for next week to our events calendar, but first things first: Here, we present our picks for Philly Beer Week events this weekend. Tasting something great? Let us know about it at phoodieinfo[at]gmail[dot]com. Bottom’s up!
Friday
>>> Start your weekend off right with a good ol’fashioned Beef ‘n’ Beer at the P.O.P.E in South Philly. If you are from the area, you are well accustomed to the grand beef ‘n’ beer neighborhood fundraising / drunk off your ass / kids get drunk too tradition. The P.O.P.E. does a modern take, serving beef stew made with Yards beer, and a vege option for the non-meaty folks. Starts at 7, get there early for a table.
Saturday
>>> Start the day off with a bit of beer and exercise with the 5 mile run, “In Pursuit of Hoppiness”. That’s right, run from pint to pint all across town and somehow, at the end of the day, it will be as if you never did either. Hooray! Starts early and ends at Dock Street Brewery.
>>> After all that running, walking might seem like fun so catch up with the South Philly Pub-crawlers at it all day, drifting from one great bar to the next. All your favorites are participating, and you get a free pint at each location for $12. More on the participants here.
>>> If all that running around isn’t your bag, sit comfy and Drink Your Wheaties! Lew Bryson hosts a Wheat Beer Brunch at the famous Grey Lodge Pub in the Northeast. Have wheat beer and pancakes with syrup made from beer.
Sunday
>>> Devil’s Alley hosts a five course tasting with chef Michael Yeamens. Experience beer, BBQ and chocolate like you never have before. Also, hear all about how to impress your neighbors this summer by grilling with beer.
>>> For dinner, head out to the 4th Annual Brewer’s Plate Fundraiser Supporting White Dog Community Enterprises at The Independence Visitor’s Center. Good food for a great cause. Find out more here.
>>> Finish your weekend off right with a double feature at the P.O.P.E. Drink Blue Point beer and watch The Big Lebowski and Barfly on a large screen with free popcorn.
Check out our complete food calendar and stay tuned all next week for what to do and where to go during Philly Beer Week!
