Prices are on the rise, and not just at the pump. Food costs are creeping upward on everything from fruit to meat to flour. And to deal with this increase, Philadelphia restaurants are being proactive. According to this Michael Klein piece, M pulled expensive, out-of-season garnishes off their plates;Horizons is keeping its chin up, hoping that this too shall pass. Meanwhile, certain eateries that carry meat and seafood are opting for cheaper choices. However luxury dining hasn’t seen much of an affect, because what’s another fifty-dollars when you’re already spending a couple hundred?
On the upside, price increases are not the natural fix for most restaurant owners because they don’t want to deter business. Furthermore, Philadelphia seems to be faring better than cities such as New York and DC due to the fact that they rely on transient business much more.
For now business is steady and restaurants aren’t faring to bad, so let’s keep it that way. Keep on eating out.
