Turkish Digs: Cafe Fulya Opens

turkeyWhat’s better than Turkish figs? California Mission Figs? Our figheads say yeah, but also: Turkish coffee.
Sweet news for Queen Villagers, then, that Cafe Fulya opened on Sunday. The coffee & pastry shop, from the owner of Divan Turkish Kitchen, is named after his sister. It’ll turn the tiny corner of 2nd & Monroe into a outdoor table flirtfest. We’ve already grown to crushing on the lovely Fulya, who has a smile that could whack the pissy look from your face as she’s fixing you a tiny cup of Turkish brew. The thick coffee is prepared specially in a small boiling pot. The dregs are meant to settle at the bottom, so don’t you dare try to compare this to espresso.

Turkish coffee is more about culture, the ending to a meal, than it is about caffeine, but Fulya will also prepare your standby coffeehouse classics. They’ll also introduce a traditional Turkish breakfast, or breffix, as the adorable teenage barista tried to tell us, in the coming weeks. The plate will feature an assortment of olives, cheese, and pastry-oh yes, the pastry. Fulya’s desserts are set to be the main attraction here. We look forward to getting our hands on some respectable baklava.

Cafe Fulya is at the corner of 2nd & Monroe sts. No phone number or website was available at press time.

This place will be the best fresh fruit cake spot in the entire Philadelphia area.
If you haven’t tried the strawbery or banana cakes yet, you haven’t been there yet.
    Good luck Fulya.

Just went there last night and LOVED it! The barista (owner) was very very nice and the food was amazing. Will definitely be coming back as I work just a few blocks away. Can’t wait for them to start serving breakfast.
