Greensgrow: Once More With Feeling!

Greensgrow, the urban farm we profiled back in March is having one helluva tenth anniversary. First, they nabbed the cover of the City Paper food guide a few weeks back, and now, the NY Times chimes in and reveals that they’re looking to expand. Located in Kensington, the one-acre plot sells their own urban garden grown vegetables, as well as herbs, nursery plants and seedlings. They even make their own honey, “Honey From the Hood.” In 2007, the farm profited around $10,000 and hopes to open another location soon in Philadelphia. To add to their list of environment-friendly good-doing, Greensgrow produces biodiesel for its vehicles from waste oil, and recycles its leftover nursery pots and trays at Zook’s Plastic Recovery in Leola, PA.

I’m a member of their CSA and just reviewed my first pickup on my website. (illeatyoudelish.blogspot.com) I’m a big fan of their farm and their philospohy. You can buy produce at their farm stand a few times a week. I urge everyone to go down and check out what they are doing on previously unusable land.

my husband belong to the greensgrow CSA and we love it. I’ve been blogging on what comes in my CSA share each week and what I plan on doing with it all. I urge everyone to visit them and see just how much they have done on this old brownfield.
