It’s Vintastic: Pieropan Soave Classico 2006

Soave

After the jump, Collin Flatt goes Old School and finds the white grape juice you can block party to.

This past weekend was filled with beatings abound. Mother nature owned my skin, Mad Decent my ear drums. Cracked hydrants, pit bull puppies, grilled flesh, and chain link basketball hoops make for a classic outdoor sexjam. Light beers are legend in sunbeamed humidity. We deserve a sorbet between the Miller Lite and Steel Reserve courses. Pieropan is your bartender for this leg of the trip.

Italians know how to rip shit up. Venezia is home to world famous blockbash Carnivale, beating all comers save the religion/jam across the pond in Rio. Soave Classico originates in the Veneto region where Venezia is the capital. A staple of the hotter-than-hot summerpartyscene in Italy, the PLCB has brought a $12 bottle of Garganega to our shore.

Pronounced SWAH-vay, as in Rico, this is the cool ruler in skinny jeans. Italian women look better because they have style. Borderline dolly’s go up a few notches paying attention to clean lines, dark colors and proper contrast. Lighter features and complexion make the Soave a vinified reflection of the regional populace.

A light straw color without much viscosity indicates a very fresh and abrupt drink experience. In summertime, that’s all you need. A crisp bright fruit mashup aroma with a lemon zest base, surrounded by almonds and lillies, her nose is quite complex. She’s been the refreshment choice for centuries in a region where heat and humidity are part of the experience, just keep her chilled and she’ll pay you back with love/drunk.

The palate is very vegetal and mineralistic. Almost like eating a green apple and licking wet stones. An herby, grassy flavor appears after a few minutes sitting in the sunlight. The finish is quick and neat, with the acidity mopping up any apple notes that might have been left behind. Refreshing to a fault. You could finish the bottle in 5 minutes without thinking. So buy 2, maybe 3.

This is your outdoor wine. Soave goes with sunlight and double-dutch, grilled veggies and potato/slaw/macaroni salad. Heavier meats need your hoppy pal Beer. Together, they can tag team the most seasoned outdoor event with a folding chair to the dome.

The PLCB has tons of this stuff in every Premium store. At a price point of $12, this is an insane deal. I buy this by the case, drink it by the Big Gulp. Consistency is a DOCG (Italian Wine Law) Label. So buy it up before I do. I’ll see you by the Slip N’ Slide, classing up your party. The PLCB Code is 025078.
