PBC’s girliest seasonal beer makes blueberry ale look like hard stuff. This pale Belgian-style is as floral as her label suggests, bringing to mind both your spice rack
and your tea caddy. Cardamom plays with ginger, lemongrass, rhubarb root, and flirts with rose hips, which is commonly used in mead, for a wispy, herbaceous blend. The light, summery Lehigh is a long and winding road. You’d have to walk her all the way home just to get anything out of her, and even then, you might require a nightcap. You’ll hit a stride eventually. This one’s worth waiting for, but she won’t stick around that long, so make your move.
VERDICT: Yay, But We Could Be Here All Night
We just had it last night. My wife took a taste, said, “This tastes like cough medicine.” She was right. Very very spicy. Not badly made or undrinkable, but way too much spices for us.
Tried a pint at the Grey Lodge on Saturday. Not my usual style, but surprisingly tasty. My co-horts agreed, but also suggested that one pint was enough.
This refreshing brew could indeed be an “entry” beer for persons who not yet love beer – different herbs, spices, and ginger evoking an especially complex tea. Refreshing and addictive, thankfully the ABV is mercifully low (or so I think). Try this quaffable special as an aperitif (you will drink several pints before you even realize it).
Vote: Yay!
Tried it at Devil’s Den last week. It was a train wreck in a glass. Unfocused, uninteresting, an uncommitted mish-mash.
