Food Blob: Greetings and Salutations

Stephen Starr• Stephen Starr has purchased the Broad Street Diner, another piece of his Alexander the Great strategy in conquering the Philadelphia food scene. We’re excited, mostly at the possibility of eating Buddakan quality food at four in the morning. [Inky]

• The Gelato Artisans of Capogiro were recently recognized in Forbes Traveler’s list of America’s Best Ice Cream. That’s great, but we think the readers of Forbes Financial Magazine are more likely to shell out $60 for 6 pints of Gelato. [Forbes Traveler]

• The LaBan reviewed Swallow this past weekend, and wasn’t impressed with the “simple” menu. Apparently he decided to make up for the simplistic food by writing more extravagantly than usual. A highlight:

I liked the delicate crisp of the fried frog’s legs, but they so lacked seasoning that the cool cucumber salad showed them up. They were also so nakedly presented on a white plate, all those little ankles crisscrossed as if doing a jig on their final leap, that they were not for squeamish eaters.

Somebody hide Michigan J. Frog. [Inky]
