I’m Missing Food Like Candy

Candy

Ok, so times are tough and everyone is complaining about gas prices, the Euro, and calling someone to fix the economy (coincidentally, anyone know a good plumber?). Soaring food prices are nothing new, but one industry stands to weather the tightening of America’s belt better than others: Candy. Apparently Americans may not be willing to buy a Big Mac, but a Reese’s Cup still calls their attention. Just supposin’, how about we give a sample menu of the new Sweets Diet that will be all the rage this summer.

Appetizer: Skittles, in place of a Fruit Cup.
Main Course: Snickers bar, served with Butterfinger BB’s and broken Kit Kat bars on the side. Knife and Fork included.
Dessert: Something light, probably a Three Musketeers Bar. Even though we are on a budget, we still have to look after our figure.

The Lipstick Effect — wherein during a recession people tend to purchase small, comforting items (ie, lipstick, candy) rather than big, expensive bling. You would think sales of candy necklaces and Ring Pops would be through the roof.
