Local Francophiles Gear Up For Bastille Day As Talk Radio Goons Polish Off Old Frog Tropes

colonialdame.jpgWe’re going to assume that you’ve already got your 4th of July on lockdown — I mean, how hard is it, right? Vodka lemonade, Godlike BBQ, fireworks on somebody’s roof, and it’s done. Easy. But Bastille Day, like all things French and therefore superior to America (we love saying stuff like this just to drive old people WILD), takes a little more prep. Toward that end, let us direct you to two Bastille Day festivities we’re hearing about that sound great. The most notable is Le Bec Fin’s fete in the garden at the Colonial Dames Mansion at 17th & Latimer (pictured), that features live jazz quartet, traditional Bastille day rotisserie pig, passed hors d’oeuvres, desserts from our pastry kitchen, a Champagne toast, a specialty cocktail by one of Moet-Hennessy’s brands, and a chance to win 2 tickets to Paris, France — all for $50. Not bad. (Afterparty at Brasserie Perrier, doncha know. Call 215.567.1000 to inquire about tickets.) But there’s also London Grill’s annual Bastille Day to-do, held in the shadow of the nearby Eastern State Penitentiary’s notable annual Bastille Day blowout. London will feature “a special menu of festive French dishes created by Executive Chef Michael McNally, including French Sausages served on baguette, traditional French culinary mainstay Coq au Vin, and London Grill’s own home-made charcuterie plate. While the popular plate’s charcuterie choices rotate frequently, some recent options have included Guanciale, Lomo Curado, Wild Boar Pepperoni and Smoked Duck Pastrami.” And of course, French Cream Puffs will be available, because they always are. Ahem. Viva la revolution!
