Olympic Fever: Phoodie Edition

We here at Phoodie have Olympic Fever real bad. Just the thought of streaming footage from Beijing is the only thing getting us through the day right now. We came across this wonderful graphic on the New York Post site and it just made our mouth water. But enough about us, let’s talk about a true champion here: Michael Phelps. Sure, he’s won more medals then any past Olympian, but that’s not why we love him, oh no. We love this guy because he eats, a lot. You know when you go out for breakfast and everything on the menu looks delicious you just want to order it all. Well, lucky Phelps does just that. We’d make a joke about it being a “Breakfast of Champions,” but there are no Wheaties here.

Breakfast (4,000 calories):
Three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayo
A five-egg omelet
Bowl of grits
Three slices of French toast with powdered sugar
Three chocolate-chip pancakes
Two cups of coffee
Lunch (4,000 calories):
A pound of pasta with tomato sauce
Two large ham sandwiches with mayo on white bread
1,000 calories of energy drinks
Dinner (4,000 calories):
A pound of pasta with tomato sauce
Six to eight pizza slices
1,000 calories of energy drinks

Now, we all know this guy trains for about 23 of the 24 hours of the day and all this food just fuels his awesomeness, but as amazed as we are at his swimming abilities, it is equally amazing that this guy can eat as much in one day as some people eat in one week. Also, let it be known that 1,000 calories of energy drinks is roughly eight or nine Vitamin Waters, or twenty Gatorade Thirst Quenchers. It’s a miracle this guy doesn’t pee in the pool every couple of minutes. After Michael Phelps conquers the Olympics, he should probably make a bold career move and dominate in competitive eating. On second thought, he shouldn’t, he might lose those abs. Swoon.
