Describing themselves as a model of environmental and social leadership, GreenFest Philly is set to host its third annual celebration of all things environmentally conscious on September 7. They expect to receive 20,000 visitors to check out, among other attractions, their eco-poetry slam, eco fashion show and clothing swap, and a water quality symposium. But this is a food site after all… so this year’s best attraction is GreenFest’s newest addition, Sweet Green Organic Pastry contest.
Festival co-director Jennifer Bednik says Sweet Green was created to try to curb the assumption that organic foods are bland. The contest is open to local amateur and professional pastry chefs. The goal is to whip up the best desert made from organic ingredients grown within 100 miles of the city. The panel of judges will include Whole Foods marketing director Brett Mapp and Kate Jacoby from Horizons.
If this is your deal, drop a line to Ntaite[at]gmail[dot]com and tell them about your recipe. The winner will receive a major prize from festival sponsor Steaz. Meantime, here’s the particulars:
2nd and South St
September 7th, 2008

This sounds like a positive event for Philadelphia.
What major prize from Steaz will be offered?
we were in the audience and posted our own reviews at the ppk forums if you want to check it out.
