In Da’ Kitch With Home Slice: Thai Curry Edition

Our man Collin Flatt found himself in the baking space of Home Slice, where he fell in love with a surprising curveball of ‘za. Can you say Thai Curry Pizza? We can. More after the jump.

The location of a pizza joint should really have walkaroundability. The Pizza Slice was designed to be your food buddy during a stroll through peoplewatching avenues and strip malls. In the best cases, the slice itself mimics the environment. Case in point: Lorenzo’s. Big, sloppy, tasty, dirty, and way over-the-top. South Street in a slice.

Enter Home Slice.  The NoLibs Pizza Parlor that drips of Liberties Walkability. It’s different pizza. Compact, progressive, veg friendly, and sort of adorable. Cracker crunchy with organic ingredients you can customize. They welcome people with different ideas, different values. Choose Your Own Adventure. The enigmatic pizza guru ‘e’ (also foodaphiliac extraordinaire) saw me sampling a plain slice and wouldn’t have it.  She had a crazy look in her eye and took me by the hand to the land of youbetterbelieve.

Start with a crispy frisbee canvas. Replace marinara with homemade red curry and coconut paste, ‘natch. Deft knife skill-up some red peppers, broccoli, and mozzarella, make it veeg if you like. Slice up the salty goodness of peanut, sprinkle liberally. Simple. Special.

What snuck out of the ovencrisper was nothing short of leftfield amazingness. A Frankenstein snack that burned with flavor and spice, the peanuts adding a texture unlike anything you’ve had on pizza. The heft of the crust kept all the toppings in place, the portion small enough that it didn’t require a fold. There’s a place and time for folds, but not at Home Slice. That’s a good thing.

The big secret: you have to request the Thai Curry beast, special-like. She’s not on the everyday menu for now, but soon. But they’ll make it for you if you ask REALLY NICELY. Try pulling that stunt at Lorenzo’s, pal, and you’re axe-ing for a paddle to the dome.
