SPTR’s Zulli Days Go The Way Of The Buffalo

sptrThe Michael Zulli era is over at 15th and Mifflin. The South Philadelphia Tap Room has announced they will be premiering a new menu and head chef come October. Their release, posted on Foobooz, apologizes to their patrons who they feel they have “disappointed” during Zulli’s time. Ouch! For now, they will offer what they call a “blast from the past” menu of pretty standard pub stuff — frittes, mussels, grilled cheese. Apparently the game fare of Zulli’s persuasion didn’t sell as well as hoped. Sure, as he mentioned in a PW interview, the lion puff pastries were obviously a bad idea, a little too exotic. But bear-bacon BLT, ostrich kabobs, and boar burger didn’t seem too far out, and most of what we’ve heard about the menu was complimentary. But that’s that… Zulli lasted a little shy of five months.

Is the Blue Pig totally off the menu now? I don’t want to walk eight block to find out for myself.

    Bear-bacon BLT: GOOD
    ostrich kabobs: meh

It never ceases to amaze me how closed minded and judgemental our city of brotherly love is.
From what I hear Chef Zulli was cherry picked from the SPTR and will be relocating to a restaurant in New York City…
hm….a place where “being weird” is not “retarded” but normal.
