Takeout Of The Gods: Ekta

ekta.jpgFor people who run a food blog, we have to be honest here: Sometimes we put the grossest stuff into our bodies. So after a week in which we got the meat sweats not once but twice, today at lunch we finally decided to go the meatless route. We figured we’d been sleeping on Ekta — the new Indian takeout/delivery place in Fishtown headed up by ex-Tiffin chef Raju Bhattarai — entirely too long, and ordered a few veggie dishes. And boy, were we right — about sleeping on Ekta too long. For $20, we had one of the best lunches in recent memory: Saag aur paneer (homemade cottage cheese with spinach over rice), alu gobi (cauliflower, potato, onion, tomato and herbs, also over rice), onion naan and vegetable samosa. All of it, exquisite — not too spicy, but not weak in the least, either. “Dignified” might be a good way to put the temperature — and in fact, the whole meal. As one friend said to us recently by way of recommending Ekta, “It’s like they fixed everything that was wrong with Tiffin — from the meals being consistently tasty to the spiciness factor to even the delivery time.” Now, we’re not trying to get in the middle of a flame war between Ekta and Tiffin, but you know what? If push comes to shove, we think we know who we might be rolling with.

Ekta Indian Cuisine is located at 250 E. Girard Ave. 215-426-2277 for take out or delivery.
