It’s with very heavy hearts that we pass this news along: In 2 weeks, Blue in Green is no more. Those perfect pancakes, often regarded as the best in the city, will no longer have a home on Mike Baer’s griddle. His latest outpost at 12th and Chestnut is becoming Hot Dog Corner by the end of September. Fear not, the baked goods and iced coffee will remain.
Mike recently started offering a $1.25 Hot Dog special that has done him well. He is upping the ante with Vienna Beef hot dogs, served in a steamed poppy seed bun with neon relish, mustard and sliced tomatoes. That and an order of fries will cost you $3.75, which is a hell of a lunch deal anywhere. We’re excited about the notion of a hot dog shop in Center City, and kind of shocked there aren’t more of these around.
We implore all of you who were/are fans of Mike’s handiwork on the griddle to stop by between now and the end of next week to stock up on pancakes. It’s gonna be your last shot, so GET TO IT. We wish Mike well on his new endeavor, but will always miss his buckwheat shortstack no matter what he calls the place.

How much is a Corner Dog going to be w/o fries. More specifically how much would 2-3 dogs and a cream soda run me? I never understood why people have fries with dogs when you could just have another dog.
My guess is a hot dog “shop” hasn’t opened up in Center City because there’s 1 or 2 sandwich carts every other block. But a shop can do a lot more with dogs than a cart, hope it works out.
Any reason why a place can’t serve pancakes at breakfast, clean the griddle and serve up dogs the rest of the day?
