Zhong Gang Bakery

Most people consider those flavorless squares you consume at any craphole buffet to be Chinese pastry. Stepping into the Zhong Gang Bakery will educate your simple ass as to what it really means to eat sweet in the Far East. As we come upon the Mid-Autumn Festival, you will find an array of beauties in the sweetcases, with the sexiest lass known as the Mooncake. A mini-cake filled with Lotus Seed paste, this dainty little creation is made from the highest quality luxury ingredients. The traditional Mooncake can get pricey: anywhere from $10-$50 is the norm. Because the filling is so rich, she is usually served in small pieces accompanied by Chinese coffee.

Our favorite eats at this establishment are the Sweet Buns, a soft and fluffy roll filled with vegetables, meats, and pastes. Start with the roast pork and the black bean varieties. The bread base is so startlingly soft, you won’t believe it can support the piggish occupant. Quite a feat. Traditionally, the filling is served cold and the portion is rather large if you don’t eat like a Yankee. These make the perfect lunch on the go, and will only set you back 70 cents. No shit.

Zhong Gang Bakery is located at 127 N 10th St.
