Phoodie Reader Brain Trust: Boddington’s On Draft?

boddingtons.jpg

Now that fall is finally, decisively upon us — we hope — lately we’ve gone back to an old fave: Boddington’s Pub Ale, that creamy old English staple, seemingly unchanged over the last 200 years. And while the beer’s patented widget-air-thing can is definitely a much more satisfying experience than any other widget-can beers we’ve had, we’re also craving the real thing, on tap. So we put it to you: Where is the Bod on tap in Philly right now? And what other creamy, drinks-like-a-meal English ales are you checking out this time of year?

Try Belhaven Scottish Ale. Same deal with widget in can. Excellent beer that drinks like a meal.

Kildare’s in headhouse square has it but who wants to step foot in there? I’ll take a Fullers London Pride any day. Unfortunately the Foodery is the only place that has it and its in a bottle, not a cask.

Fox & Hound (15th and Spruce) had it not too long ago, but I won’t admit to having been there. Rembrant’s is the best bet as far as I know.

Belhaven comes in cans with a widget thingy? I’ve only had it on draft and in bottles, actually got a case in my basement right now. Good stuff, but a scotch ale is not a meal, unless you’re looking for a couple of pints to knock you to bed.

Last I checked Darkhorse Pub and Fado had it on draft. Smithwicks or Murphy’s over that crap anyday.

Lately though an Old Chub(American Scottish Ale from Colorado Oscar Blues–Cheap, effective, tasty) a day keeps the doctor away.
