Lacroix Aligns With Europe, Admits There’s A Recession

A few weeks back, some local restaurants ran the Appetite Stimulus Plan, which was basically Restaurant Week, Jr., in the hopes of enticing broke-ass locals to spend something, ANYTHING, on eateries.

Lacroix has announced that they will be honoring their Appetite Stimulus Plan all winter long. This is truly awesome because Matt Levin is one of the most forward-thinking chefs in town and his foodwares are not to be trifled with. That’s 3 courses for $24. Steep? Nah, at one point a lunch at Lacroix could top out around $100. Say it with us: DEEP DISCOUNTS.

So here’s the Phoodie suggestion: Take one of those hooky days you were saving for window shopping and start with a couple late morning rounds of DiSaronno at Oscar’s instead. Head to Lacroix for the Recession Lunch smelling of amaretto and stale smoke. Wink at the gentlemen in the blazer next to you, toasting your bubbly to the holiday and the impending collapse of our economy. At least you’ll be doing it in style.

I went to Lacroix during Restaurant Week. Never again. Not to say I will never go there, but I have given up on the discounted dining at nice restaurants. My experience at Brasserie Perrier was also very disappointing. They scrimp on the quality of the food period. The piece of veal I got was fatty and unacceptable and the cauliflower soup completely uninspired and plain. At Brasserie I felt like they hired cafeteria staff just to get through the week. I think if you really want to experience these places, you need to cough up the dough.

    Billy,

sorry to hear that. I gotta say, I wouldn’t promote Brasserie to begin with. BP has gone down in quality recently and I would expect them to treat their Restaurant Weekers as cattle. Sadly, too many places practice exactly what you speak. Although with Lacroix, I am bummed to hear you had this same poor quality of food/service. Levin’s a sharp guy and loves to cook for the masses. I will say give the lunch a shot. There are off nights, but way too many happen on Restaurant Week. ‘natch.
