Eat, Drink, Be Pair-y.

standardtap24.jpgThe Standard Tap has always been a comfy haven for those with a taste for local craft beer. Recently the Northern Liberties landmark has taken an unpretentious step in the direction of beer and food pairing. In November, the Tap held an event in conjunction with Victory Brewing Company which offered five courses, each prepared by the Standard Tap and paired with a beer from Victory. Highlights included fried smelts with a caper remoulade paired with Victory’s Braumeister Pils and grilled venison loin with mission fig chutney paired with Victory Dark Lager. The portions at first seemed small but by the end of the final course everyone left with a full tummy and a buzz on. It may seem a little more formal than what you’d expect at the Tap but for beer nerds it’s a great time. Each brew had its own story which was casually told between courses by Victory owner Bill Coveleski. There’s another such function in the works with Riverhorse Brewing Co scheduled for January 26th. Tickets are $45 and will be available at the Tap for cash only.
