Hungry For Change?

obamaeating.jpgSo at this point, this much you know: You’re not going to DC tomorrow, but you will be celebrating Inauguration Day in the laziest, day-off way you can muster. Because, like everyone else, you no longer have a job. Luckily for you, there’s lots of places in town to spend this momentous occasion.

  • McGillin’s Olde Ale House is throwing an Hawaiian Luau, complete with red, white and blue leis, Huli Huli Chicken, Macadamia Nut Crusted Coconut Shrimp and Peachy Pork Roast Barbecue. And of course, some inaugural drank: Blue Hawaiians; Red, White & Blue Freedom Cocktails, the new Obama Mama (a tropical concoction of rums and coconut). Classy!
  • Meanwhile, Miss Tootsie’s RBL on South Street is going for more of an evening affair: Following Obama’s swearing in at noon, there’s a Happy Hour from 5pm-7pm featuring Obama-tinis and other specialty cocktails. You’re encouraged to dress up, as later, a luxe affair features a complimentary soul food buffet from 7pm to 9pm, with DJs and dancing.
  • Over at Rouge, Executive Chef Matthew Zagorski will be spooning out a special Three Meat Chili; and The Washington Apple cocktail will be served. And as the entire restaurant inside and out will be decorated with festive red, white and blue balloons, there’ll also be a special change-specific playlist pumping all day long.
  • And lastly, if you’re looking to do Inauguration Day on the cheap, Philebrity and Phoodie will be blogging all day live and direct from National Mechanics in Old City, where happy hour prices will be in effect all day and CNN will be on the big screen. Come say hello!
