Great Depression 2.0, I Could Kiss You On The Mouth: $18 Lunch At Tinto

tinto_logo.jpgIf we told you a few years ago that this would be happening, you would have beat us with your Ugg boot and said, “GET OUT!” But ladies and gentlemen, sell your stereo, lock up your Hooverville, and meet us on 20th Street: The Tinto$18 prix-fixe Bilbao Express lunch menu is upon us.

“First course options include: Charcuterie and Cheeses, such as chorizo Pamplona and le moulis; Sopa de Castano, a truffled chestnut soup with duck and mushroom hash and pistachio; and Tinto Nicoise, a salad of big eye tuna, green beans, confit potato and black olive vinaigrette. Second-course options include: Moules Basquaise, mussels with chorizo, frites and lemon aioli; Sandwiches such as braised shortribs with bacon, asparagus and celery root aioli; and Revuelto de Hongos, soft-scrambled eggs with wild mushrooms and truffle buttered toasts.
Additional accompaniments such as Calcots, charred green onions with romesco sauce, and Frites, considered by many to be Philadelphia’s best French fries, served with lemon aioli, are available for $6 to $12 dollars, to supplement the two-course meal. Desserts are also available for an additional cost, and include Tinto’s classic Gateaux Basque, traditional Basque cake with pastry cream and black cherries.”

Bluebirds of the recession, we love you so. Available now.

Ummm… Tinto and Amada have always had these lunch deals. And they used to be much cheaper than this. I’m pretty sure the Catalan Express at Amada used to be 12.95 or 13.95. I had the Bilbao express lunch at Tinto in the summer of 2007 and it was definitely way less than 18.

Poking around a bit, they used to be 12.50 (Amada) and 14.99 (Tinto). So it looks like they’re acutally advertising a jump in price as if it were a whole new deal. Oh well.

Phoodie did you sell out for ad money. If you think $18 for lunch is cheap your nuts. For two people with a drink, tax, and tip that would come close to $60. What a deal.

Yes Matt, we did sell out for ad money. As evidenced by the amazing array of ads currently gracing the site.

$18 is cheap for Tinto, you phreakin’ Philistine. You want cheaper? Hit up Maoz.

Now get the hell out of my office.
