We got a press release last night announcing that, as of Friday, Amada will be the first-ever location to serve Estrella Damm Inedit Beer (pictured), “a lager and Belgian wheat beer blend with hints of orange and spice.” You’re supposed to serve it in a white wine glass — at $30 for a 750 mL bottle, you better dress it up somehow — and up until very recently, you weren’t supposed to serve it in PA at all. But like some other local spots — Zahav, for instance, who recently got GoldStar, the Budweiser of Israel, onto the PLCB books — Amada in all likelihood lobbied the PLCB directly to get the all-clear for a spirit they would come to regard as part of their menu. There’s good news all around here: Not only do the cases of Inedit and GoldStar set a great precedent for restaurants being able to pull in cuisine-specific beverages that enhance their own menus and bar rings, but also — and here’s the really great part — once those spirits are on the books, it means they’re available to local retailers as well, be it beer distributors or State Stores. For instance, not long after GoldStar debuted at Zahav, it was also found on shelves at The Foodery in NoLibs. Cool how that works, no?

Doesn’t this beg the question of why anyone would want to get Goldstar in the first place?
