Esquire, that fading captain of men’s magazinery, did another one of those list jawns specifically intended to get lots of blogs in “major markets” to link to them. And, guess what: It worked. (It always works.) For what kind of people would we be if we did not share this moment of rejoicing with the Gayborhood’s Kanella, the real-deal Greek joint we Once-Over’d last June. So sayeth the Esquirons:
Kanella — Philadelphia, Pa.
The Cypriot breakfast plate tastes heartier and more serious than its American counterpart: Sunny-side eggs fried in olive oil have a thick yolk and crunchy underlining, grilled halloumi and lounza (ham) are salty slabs, and the coffee is made Turkish-style by boiling finely powdered roasted beans (mixed with sugar) over a propane burner. Let the dregs settle.
And who would we be to argue? Congrats, our civilization-cradling friends. [Hat tip to uwishunu's twitter]

Bravo to them,,we need a lot more joints like them,
The food is just so good.
just found this article a few weeks ago while searching for a diner in denver, co.
being a new resident to Philadelphia, i can’t wait to try this place out!
the owner chef of kanella in my opinion is the best chef by far in philadelphia.
he is daring not comprimising with trends and a great character.
he belongs to the old school of chefs that they learn their skill the very hard way.
Kanella is a very unigue restaurant that shows everybody else how food should be.Simple.
He is also a canditate for the best chef of the year(James beard award)……….
