They Call Him ‘The Roaster’

We were sampling a firkin of the Sly Fox Gang Aft Agley last night when a waft of hearty and raw coffee beanage smacked our nose like a beautiful fist. The Gang was malty and slightly smokey, but there shouldn’t have been a heavy cocoa aroma in the glass. Sure enough, it was not the beer.

The legend of a man called ‘The Roaster’, who sells bags of whole roasted coffee beans at your local pub, are true. Very true. And we have the pics to prove it. His parents gave him the loving handle Will MacFarlane, but when your barkeep announces that ‘The Roaster’ is leaving in 5 minutes, money is held up high in the air before the man slips out the door into the chilly night.

We purchased a pound of Smoky Cafe Blend last night. Our grinder loves fresh beans, and we love Will. 100% Organic and Fair Trade wares are all this man sells, so feel good about purchasing from a guy who knows that real beer drinkers will always prepare for the morning after. We caught him at The Standard Tap around 8PM last night, but we’re sure he makes his way to your neck of the woods, too. Glad to make your acquaintance, Roaster, we’ll be seeing you down the trail.

Damn it, Joey! The roaster is MY find. He’s been my secret for five years and you have to go and blow it.

Joey didn’t blow the secret either, my friend. He happened to show up when I was drinking the fine scotch ale from Sly Fox. Yummy on both counts. Will works for Blue Water Coffee Roasters.

Will is the son of Ian MacFarlane, longtime Philly coffee roaster at New Harmony and a good man, too.
