Food Blob: Serious Sandwiches

roast_pork_italian

  • Serious Eats helps Philadelphia distance itself from the ever-looming specter of the cheesesteak with their glowing write-up of Tony Luke‘s roast pork Italian sandwich. We’re all pumped to see this Philly staple get some recognition and who knows, maybe this is a step toward a whole new reputation for Philly. One of fame for many different types of sandwiches.
  • On the subject of things that aren’t cheesesteaks, Chef Keith Taylor (chef for UPenn and the New Jersey Nets and Devils) has opened Holy Smoke, a new southern/barbeque joint in Roxborough. To celebrate, they’re going to be handing out some samplings during happy hour tonight and tomorrow (March 5,6) at their location on 473 Leverington Ave. As they say, if it’s good enough for the Nets…
  • Tomorrow night at 5:30 PM, Savona’s Sommelier, Melissa Monosoff, is going to be pitting beer against wine in some sort of fun drinking event disguised as a lesson. It’s $25 per person for a selection of three wines and three beers and a whole bunch of knowledge that you won’t retain. Call  610.520.1200 for reservations.
  • Top Chef rolled into Philly yesterday to audition a bunch of chefy hopefuls. We aren’t chefs, so we didn’t go. Did you?
