Last week Dunkin’ Donuts announced “Create Dunkin’s Next Donut” online contest. Customers can go to Dunkin’s website and build a donut to their liking. Chocolate jelly filled donut with Reese’s Pieces on top? Sure! Not only do the virtual donuts make you super hungry, but there is a chance that your original donut design could win you the $12,000 grand prize. I tried my hand at some virtual donut building and made some Philadelphia styled donuts just for you Phoodie readers. Enjoy!

Sure this donut looks simple enough, all vanilla and bland. Then you realize it is filled with….chocolate.
The Nutty Mayor Nutter Donut
Sour cream cake dough, peanut butter icing, chopped walnuts and butternut crunch toppings. This donut is nutty and has many layers, just like the real Mayor Nutter.
Cheesesteak Donut
Pumpkin bread stick shape, berry mango fruit jelly, chocolate icing and yellow and orange sprinkles. Looks just liked a cheesesteak, right?
Update: We have just submitted The Nutty Maoyr Nutter Donut and Cheesesteak Donut to the contest. Here is how is goes down, submissions are judged by Dunkin’ Donuts and a dozen finalists are announced on May 15th and then the voting begins! The Grand Prize winner is announced on June 5th, National Donut Day. Cross your fingers for Phoodie!
I really would eat the Nutty Mayor Nutter donut. If you can get them without the carapace of sugar goo glaze, the Dunkin’ Donuts sour cream donut is quite tasty–dark, crusty, crunchy on the outside, with a remarkably sophisticated flavor inside and dense, tender crumb.
