Starr Restaurants announced today its plans to run an upscale food stand in Franklin Square Park. Beginning in mid-April, they will be slinging the usual burgers, hot dogs, pretzels and ice cream that one would expect, but come summer time, Starr plans to step up their game. The menu will expand to offer an array of specialty burgers, shakes, yuppie salads and artisanal Capogiro gelato. Yum! Starr also plans to adorn the park with extra benches and tables to allow guests to dine al fresco. The real question is, what are they going to do about the errant scent of pee and bike messenger that lingers around that general neck of the woods? Might we suggest The Continental’s Crab Pad Thai? The sweet aroma of that dish could cover up anything.

Shake Shack anyone?
I have to admire the man’s moxy stealing others’ ideas while lining his pockets.
This will be interesting – especially when my company’s annual wiffle ball season starts RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THEIR RESTAURANT.
Let’s see, in NYC Shake Shack has operated in part to fund the makeover and upkeep of Madison Sq. Park. I wonder how much of the proceeds of the Starr Shack will go towards similar funding of Franklin Sq.? If it’s the same sort of deal, we should welcome the business (even if it is a ripoff). However, if it’s all going in the man’s pockets then I hope he doesn’t sell one single burger and we should all boycott the business.
