Local Chef Katie Cavuto To Compete On This Season Of The Next Food Network Star

37900_articleSeems like The Next Food Network Star, the Food Network‘s reality/competition show that pits 10 relatively unknown chefs against each other to win a grand prize of their own show on the network, likes Philly. Last year, Philly’s Adam Gertler was selected to compete, and even though he came in as a runner-up, FN still hooked dude up with a show. This year’s competitors have been announced, and on that list is local gal/chef/dietician Katie Cavuto (pictured). Cavuto’s name might be familiar to local phoodies, as she’s the force behind Healthy Bites Delivery, a Philly-based personal chef/nutritional service. And it’s Healthy Bites that sets up Cavuto as a potentially fierce competitor this year, as it’s paved the way to TV for her with a healthy talking head resume (no pun intended). Also of note on this year’s NFNS: An appearance by Masaharu Morimoto. No word on what the details of that challenge will be, but we’ll definitely be watching when the show debuts on June 7th. Keep in mind, though, that winning NFNS isn’t always a good thing: Remember, this is the show that brought Guy Fieri into your life. Ick.

I hated Guy Fieri with a passion after he won, but I do love me some Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. I even got used to the horrible dye-jobs, shitty facial hair, even shittier clothes and his Swingers vibe.

    Awesome news!

She seems too similar to Ellie Krieger (Healthy Appetite) to offer anything new to Food Network. Hopefully that doesn’t matter when they judge the contest.

I met Katie about a month ago at nbc studios. She is good people. And she likes good beer;)
She told me she does Fox 29 stuff a lot. So she has the camera experience as well as the culinary background…could be a good contender.

yay Katie!!! I’m so excited for her and I hope it’s a WIN WIN WIN for her! I met Katie on myspace when we both submitted a video for food network back in 2007. A fellow dietitian, I am in her corner all the way!
