New this year at Citizens Bank Park and possibly your grocer’s freezer: Phillie Phanatic Double Play Ice Cream, brought to you by Turkey Hill Ice Cream. What’s it taste like? While we thought this might be a great opportunity to think outside the box and have the world’s first “furry green (apple) ice cream,” the folks at TH have decided to play it safe — which strikes us as very un-Phanatic like. (Consider, after all, that this is a green monster who takes great pleasure on open-firing into crowds with a gun that shoots poisonous meat darts.) Instead, Phillie Phanatic Double Play is “Bavarian cream-flavored light ice cream with caramel corn and caramel swirl.” Bo-rrrring. We’ll still eat it, though. It’s called “taking one for the team,” pal.
