S.O.S. Save Our Sushi!

For years, we’ve been hearing those wieners over at the World Wildlife Federation bitch and moan about overfishing practices and how the whole ocean is going to sink into the center of the earth if we don’t stop and pull a stupid dolphin out of some stupid tuna nets. But recently, some new facts have surfaced. According to a report on the UK”s TimesOnline, the WWF says we have three short years until Atlantic Bluefin Tuna fisheries all but totally collapsed. Bluefin fetches a pretty penny worldwide but it is selling like sushi-flavored hotcakes in Japan. The average size of mature Mediteranian Bluefin Tuna has halfed since the 1990s, as a result of high market prices coupled with fishing vessels that have the ability to round up as many as 3,000 tuna in an outing. In response to this report, The European Union proposed to cut Bluefin quotas by 2011 and shorten the window in which the tuna can be fished with a freeze on fishing this season. We can (kinda) deal with the fact that there may be a little Flipper in our tin of tuna but dammit, the prospect of no more sushi takes it too fucking far. We here at Phoodie.info is also now on board with the EU and the WWF and they have all of our resources at their disposal. We’ve recently made some Somali pirate connects, who would be sure to make flotsam out of these jerkass fishermen.

if the assholes in the EU listed to the US, who have been watching the annual quota of commercially harvested BFT & YFT, then we would not be in this crisis. The US imposes strict commercial & recreational Tuna minimums & maximums to prevent issues like this. ps: most of the sushi you eat is Yellow Fin (ahi), not Blue Fin tuna
