Come June 13th, Brewerytown is going to show the rest of us just what they got. That’s the day that their Art + Soul Food Festival jumps off. It’s an event intended to showcase the culture that has grown along West Girard like a pretty flower through a crack in the asphalt. The Art + Soul Food crew consists of area artists, musicians, property owners and restauranteurs who are pooling their creative efforts to,
“create a recurring series of gallery spaces…to bring attention and visitors to the six block stretch of West Girard Avenue between Girard College and Fairmount Park, while showcasing the area’s culinary and arts contributions and subsequently create more activity on the avenue from both a residential and commercial standpoint.”
Brewerytown is definitely not the first Philly neighborhood that may come to mind when you hear words like “culinary” or “arts” — and that’s pretty much the point. The Art + Soul Food Fest suggests that it should at least be on the list. Brewerytown has recently been hailed the “epicenter of soul food in Philly” and Deborah’s Kitchen and Butter’s Soul Food will be offering up food to prove it. The art that will be on display looks just as intriguing. Local artist Beth Beverly is bringing some (creepy but in a charming way) pieces to the mix that one can only attempt to describe as fantastic taxidermy dress ups. The kick off party will also feature local Brewerytown music ranging from hip-hop to a marching band. The Festival is on June 13th from 6-9 and takes place between the 2600-2900 blocks of West Girard.

Just want to note that the date is actually JUNE 13th, not July. Thanks again for mentioning the festival!
