Food Blob: Proud-A-Ya!

  • 00022fGQ food blogger Alan Richman, who is not Alan Rickman, recently put together a slideshow of “America’s 25 Best Pizzas.” He also put together a really long article about pizza that we definitely did not read. The slideshow, though — beautiful. And Philly makes two appearances. Our first comes in at number nine with Tacconelli’sa pizzeria we are intimately familiar with — on 2604 East Somerset Street. Richman gives a rave review of their White pie, saying, “In essence, it’s the ultimate expression of cheese on bread.” Next is Osteria on 640 North Broad Street at the 22 spot with their Zucca pie. Good looking out, Richman. Can’t wait for Half-Blood Prince.
  • “Humble Bob” Stoudt of Philadelphia came in third in the World Funnel Cake Eating Championship, which took place on May 24 at Virginia’s King’s Dominion theme park. The winner, Joey Chestnut of San Jose, California, ate 7.35 pounds of funnel cake. Pretty gross. But don’t feel too bad for Bob — he still holds the record for eating 13 cheesesteaks in an hour. Phiiillaaaaayyy!

I can’t be the only one that thinks that Tacconelli’s White Pizza is a pathetic joke. It’s oily pizza with garlic powder and salt. And they charge $20 for it.

I actually like the crust at Tacconelli’s but the quality of the sauce and toppings is outrageously poor.
