We’ve been waiting with baited breath (snarf!) for the unveiling of the oldnew Oyster House on Sansom Street. With a Mink back at the helm and a beautiful new space, we can finally return to the days of 2-martini lunches with Cape May Salts and Blue Points ’til we can’t see anymore.
Head bartender Katie Loeb made sure we got the full-on treatment when she served up all 5 alcoholic Oyster Shooters (the 6th is the Bloody Shame, a Virgin Mary plus bivalve) and challenged Collin Flatt‘s liver to a 5 minute speed round. They went down so smooth and tasty, and believe it or not, stayed down. At $5 a piece, you can’t go wrong with any of them, but here’s the rundown:
The Londoner: This was our favorite. Cucumber, Lemon, and Dill infused Gin. If there’s a better partner for seafood than lemon and dill, we don’t wanna know about it. The 2 martini dilly-o becomes 3 once you swallow it all.
The New Englander: Horseradish infused vodka with Heirloom Tomato juice. Like any good chowder, but much better for the buzz and cherry sweet.
El Chulo: Horseradish infused Tequila with smoky Sangrita. A Michelada on steroids with a slippery friend, indeed.
The Bangkok: Ginger, Lemongrass, and Thai Basil infused Vodka. Costs a few dollars more than dirty fun in Thailand, but safer and definitely tastier.
The Chihuahua: Hot Pepper and Cilantro infused Vodka and Tomato Juice. Our second favorite, with just the right amount of pain mellowed out by the sweetness of the tomato juice. Just make sure to get the whole oyster down right away. That sucker burns after swimming in pepper oil.
If that doesn’t get you to the Oyster House, we’re not sure we can all be friends anymore. We don’t get people that don’t like raw animals swimming in alcohol. Bring your liver, folks, as Katie is gonna be your tour guide on this leg of the trip. Words of warning: If you do order the Bloody Shame, be prepared for some obvious eye-rolling and whispers around the bar. Find a pair.
