Good Things: Local Organic Farms

railroad-museum-of-pennsylvania-strasburg-padutLooking for an excuse to get out of the city and into greener pastures? Are Farmer’s Markets not “real” enough for you? We found a list of 26 different Pennsylvania Certified Organic farms in the surrounding counties that welcome visitors and have delicious organic produce to offer. More of the organic produce you love, without the guilt-trip that you get thinking about environmental cost of shipping organic baby-leaf greens from California to the East Coast so they can appear on your table. Just a quick word of advice, speaking from experience: Don’t visit a mushroom farm on a very hot day. You’ll regret it. Just trust me.

Great list but it’s worth noting that lots of farms are spray free and sustainable even though they don’t pay the money or deal with the hassle of being certified organic.

Certified organic and various buzz words only goes so far, especially with eggs and dairy.
I’ll take pastured eggs and dairy over “organic”, “cage-free” or “free range” products any day, as those terms mean next to nothing.
