With the summer solstice starting to seem like ancient history, that puts us right in the middle of the summer doldrums; however, a few restaurants are adding or changing their hours to keep things interesting. Thanks for that, guys! Here’s the lowdown on some of the recent changes, most of which seem designed to make sure that we don’t go hungry at lunchtime on weekends! We’re down with that.
· Amada is adding a Saturday lunch from 11:30am until 2:30pm. The menu is slightly different than their weekday lunch and lacks the $14.95 Catalan Express (known colloquially the “Businesswomen’s Special”). But we all know that at Amada, you’re probably far more interested in the tapas anyway. Patatas bravas, anyone? We’ll assume you answered with a resounding “Yes!”
· In other Jose Garces news, Chifa is mirroring Amada’s move by adding a Saturday lunch as well, also served from 11:30am until 2:30pm. Luckily for weekend workers and just about everyone else, Chifa’s Saturday menu is keeping their weekday mix-and-match-two-courses-for-$18 Hiram Bingham Express (their very own “Businesswomen’s Special”). With four kinds of ceviche from which to choose, it’s kind of hard to go wrong there.
· Day By Day is now doing brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am until 3pm (they also discontinued their Monday lunch). We haven’t been there for brunch yet, but dishes on the menu like Puffed Apple Pancakes and Potato Pancakes Benedict sound like winners to us (it’s a known fact that Hollandaise makes everything better).
· Way out in the ‘burbs, the newly-opened Azie on Main (pictured) in Villanova, an outpost of the original Azie in Media, will serve weekday lunch (11:30am – 2:30pm) starting this Friday, as well as brunch on Sundays starting August 9. The lunch menu is straight-up Japanese, but we haven’t seen the brunch menu yet. A Japanese-style brunch sounds quite appealing, no? Bring on the sake.
