Breathe Easy, Fishtown, You May Finally Get A Decent Cup Of Coffee

milcratecafe

If you live or work in Fishtown, you probably already know that the coffee situation in these parts is, in a word, dire. The Coffee Shop That Shall Remain Nameless is a slow-service, mediocre-java non-starter, the two Dunkin’ Donuts around here are straight-up Village Of The Damned, and Wawa is serviceable (we guess) so long as you don’t get the iced coffee. So color us absolutely tickled that Milkcrate Coffee seems to be readying itself for its quick and inevitable takeover as The Only Place In Fishtown To Get A Cup Of Coffee And Not Want To Punch Yourself In The Face In The Process. Adam Porter (formerly of Cue Records) is opening Milkcrate in what used to be the old Canvas Coffee space, and it will also be — not too much of a surprise here — a boutique record store. Word on the street is that Porter will be serving La Colombe coffee, though we don’t have a confirm on that just yet; nor do we have an opening date. But by the looks of the sweet mural above, it can’t be too far off.

I’m glad someone else actually came out and said how bad “T.C.S.T.S.R.N” sucks ass. It’s like Central Perk meets Club Lyfestile. I bought a new coffee maker this summer so i could avoid them at all costs. Maybe the Milkcrate will force them to step up their game.

Old City Coffee is so DELICIOUS at home or in the tawny cups of its creator; yet somehow it tastes like dirt and neon at “T.C.S.T.S.R.N”. I typically prefer a more “focused” coffee shop, hopefully the Milkcrate will be a delicious alternative! It’d be a bummer to have yet another “hip” yet apathetic and blasE coffee shop- I’m reminded of what a wise man once said about Triathelete hopefuls: “Do you really want to suck at 3 sports at once??”
