When we tasted Exit 4 prior to release, we knew there was something special there. Everything we hated about Trippels was absent from the bottle, and what was left behind was nothing short of amazingness.
Apparently, the critics agree. Exit 4 came back to the swamplands of New Jersey sportin’ a heavy-ass GOLD MEDAL from the Great American Beer Festival in Colorado. Beating down all comers in the popular American-Belgian Style Division, it also came up as Best Belgian Style Beer in Men’s Journal. Props go to head brewer and good buddy Casey Hughes for putting 609 on the map of the beer world in a big way this year.
The rest of the locals went as follows:
Gold Medals
- Iron Hill Brewery (Phoenixville) Schwarzbier – German Style Schwarzbier
- McKenzie Brew House Saison Vautour – French and Belgian Style Saison
- Triumph Brewing (Philadelphia) KinderPils – Session Beer
- Troegs Brewing Troegenator – Bock
Silver Medals
- Iron Hill Brewery (Media) Raspberry Torte – American-style Sour Ale
- Nodding Head Brewing Co. George’s Fault – Specialty Honey Beer
- Troegs Brewing Dead Reckoning – American Style Stout
Bronze MedalsÂ
- Flying Fish Brewing Co. Hopfish – Classic English Style Pale Ale
- Nodding Head Brewing Co. Phruit Phunk – Wood and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer
- Stoudt’s Brewing Co. Kolsch – German Style Kolsch
- Troegs Brewing Sunshine PIls – German-Style Pilsener
While it’s almost impossible to find any Exit 4 left anywhere, Exit 11 is still pouring well around town and in bottles, and you can expect Exit 1, a dry oyster stout, in the coming months.

Pizza place at 22nd and South had a couple of bottles left last week of Exit 4.
You mean 856…I miss the 609 days.
