This morning, Whipped Bakeshop — whom you may remember from such adventures as the Yellow Submarine Cookies — has officially opened as a bright little corner store in Fishtown, serving La Colombe coffee and and their own cupcakes.

The bakeshop occupies the first floor retail space in a LEED certified building from the architecture firm, Onion Flats. Whipped’s stainless steel appliances and glossy pastry case gleam in the natural light. Vertical multicolor striped walls pleseantly contrast against the horizontal lines of black and white linoleum floor tiles. The graphic setting is a great backdrop for the delicate, playful pastries they sell which was designed by Bahdeebahdu.

Whipped uses fresh, natural ingredients and each beautiful creation is handmade. Innovative and unique, they are created by pastry chef and artist Zoe Lukas, who is no stranger to these pages. The icings are sugary and buttery but not overly sweet. The cake is moist and soft yet maintains its shape. Whether eaten by hand or fork, the cakes don’t become a mess of crumbly bits. The chocolate is rich and the vanilla is subtle, both delicious and recommended. You can taste the quality and care that goes into each pastry. (Visit the website to check out the photos of all the sweets Zoe has previously crafted).
Operating mostly as a bakery for pre-orders, Whipped offers a variety of cupcakes that will change on a daily basis. Today’s cupcakes are Vanilla on Vanilla, Chocolate on Vanilla, Chocolate on Chocolate, Vanilla on Chocolate, Lemon on Lemon, and Vanilla on Chocolate Ganache. Stop in there today for a sugar fix.
