The harvest season seems to be over, but Greensgrow is still as active as ever in Fishtown. This Saturday from 5PM-8PM at the Philadelphia Brewing Company, they are hosting their second annual Whole Hog Event. This fundraising feast includes roasted Cuban-style pig, grilled salmon, vegan and vegetarian food, freshly milled cider, and PBC’s Harvest From the Hood beer made from hops grown at Greensgrow.
The suggested donation of $50 goes towards Greensgrow’s Community Kitchen Project at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church on Trenton and Cumberland. Their project offers the use of a fully equipped, commercial kitchen to established and start-up food-based businesses, and also will be used to host workshops on food preservation, smart cooking and food preparation, small business organization, and food safety and handling. The kitchen will also serve as home base for Greensgrow’s 2010 Low Income CSA. Donations go specifically towards outfitting the kitchen with commercial cooking equipment, an appropriate ventilation system and a video system to enable Greensgrow to tape instructional cooking programs.
RSVP to events@greensgrow.org. Payment can be made at the door to PBC (Amber and Martha Streets), or online via PayPal at www.greensgrow.org.
