Finally, Penn Kids Tell Us What’s Cool at Phoodie.info: The New Food And Drink Blog For Philadelphia

Have you been craving “cool bar” recommendations from Penn students? If your answer to that is a big yes, look no further then Bar For the Course (only a Penn student could add that touch of class with a golf reference). These two gals have only started their quest to “go to as many bars in Philadelphia as we can before we graduate and write a blog about it,” so there are only nine recommendations to enjoy at the moment. However, one of the more handy features of this blog would have to be their graphs, to clearly show which bars are awesome, bad, sketchy and/or classy. They also rate the bar’s service, decor and vibe and the drink’s strength, creativity (really?), and tastiness. Considering blatant name dropping of “hanging out with their friend Jose Garces,” and so far sticking to more ritzier establishments, I’m sure there are better blogs out there to help you out. However, if you happen to understand and likewise love the implicit je ne sais quoi of the Penn Chick Bargoing Aesthetic, this is the blog for you.

Dear Phoodie,
I love this, but would like to share some thoughts:
1. I encourage you to stay tuned! Our destinations will become decidedly less ritzy as we move out of the Rittenhouse area to which we have more or less dedicated the month of January.
2. Drink creativity is important to us! We like it when bars have a menu of original drinks – it shows a little extra effort on their part to create a strong theme/atmosphere.
3. The Jose Garces reference is a bit of an inside joke, since (in our cases, at least) “my friend Jose” usually refers to the tequila. I should’ve said “hanging out with our friend Jose (Garces and Cuervo, both),” though I really have no idea what brand of tequila Cantina serves.

“Cool” bar advice from Penn students? Same vein as “cool” style tips from Vogue or “cool” movie recommendations from Entertainment Weekly. You get all this information from a cashier at Barnes & Noble but without the tacky Philly2Night poses and second-floor H&M stylings. These sort of weekend traipses across the Schuylkill river should be relegated to Facebook. But I guess I know where to turn to when I need a bar to pregame the Sex and the City 2 premiere.
