Can’t get enough of Philly’s own Iron Chef, Jose Garces? Uh, neither can we. Next Tuesday, February 16th, Garces will open his sixth culinary venture, the hotly-awaited gourmet market and café called Garces Trading Company, located on 1111 Locust Street. With operating hours of Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., it will carry everything from homemade cuisine to imported foods all under the Garces Trading Company label. Additionally, it will also have an on-site bakery, flower shop, Garces’ personal coffee brew and the first-ever in-store Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board wine shop carrying over 200 red, white and sparkling options.
Traditionally seen in European markets, it was important for designer Jun Aizaki, a frequent collaborate with Garces’, to incorporate hanging meats from the high ceilings and stand-up tables for visitors to use in the multi-purpose space. With the market shaped in a U, guests have the option to take a bite out of the free cheese samples, a signature at Amada, or even private labeled vinegars and olive oils native to Italy, Greece and Spain, accompanied with fresh baked goods courtesy of the on-site bakery. Looking to warm up in this chilly weather? Stop by the coffee shop and get a cup of Garces’ favorite brew carried and served in all of his restaurants around town. For those that prefer prepared foods, GTC at Home offers a neatly packaged selection of food for convenient reheating with choices ranging from French, Spanish and Italian cheeses, sandwiches and a wide meat selection. For the lunch and dinner crowd, guests have the option to grab a quick bite or dine casually with options such as: Pappardelle with Lamb Ragu, Deep Dish Pizza, Carbonara and other daily specials, all with inspiration from Garces’ restaurants and even with the option to grab-and-go.
