What’s Up, New Blood? Koo Zee Doo Makes A Strong Showing In The James Beard Semifinals

Northern Liberties BYO Koo Zee Doo received the equivalent of four nominations in the what Time magazine describes as “the Oscars of food.” To be mentioned alongside such Philly heavy hitters as Stephen Starr and Marc Vetri in the James Beard Awards is one thing, but to be announced as a semifinalist in four different categories after only opening its doors in October is quite impressive. Chef David Gilberg received semifinal nominations in both the Rising Star Chef of the Year, and Best Chef: Mid Atlantic. Chef Carla Gonçalves was among those who made the list for the Outstanding Pastry Chef catagory (we told you the chocolate salami was good.) Koo Zee Doo also made the semis under the Best New Restaurant category.
