Vote For Phave Phillies Phrank

Food contests where you have to vote without actually tasting what you’re voting for can be tricky business, but that isn’t stopping the concessions providers at Citizens Bank Park from giving it a try…sort of. As reported by KYW, they’re holding a contest to select which of three proposed wieners will become the new “signature hot dog” for Citizens Bank Park; online voting has just started and will run until April 4th. All three contenders will be served at Phillies exhibition games on April 2nd and 3rd, so unless you make it to those games, you’ll have to use your imagination. Fortunately, the three dogs up for consideration are described in detail on the site. They include…

The South Philly Hot Dog: An all-beef dog, topped with broccoli rabe, spicy roasted peppers and sharp provolone on a crusty Italian roll.

The Olde Philadelphia Hot Dog: An all-beef dog, topped with Amish pepper hash, dill pickle and yellow mustard on a poppyseed roll.

The Summer Hot Dog: An all-beef dog, topped with cucumbers, pickled onion salsa and ancho-pepper sauce on a pretzel roll.

While whichever dog wins is likely to put a fairly serious dent in the ol’ wallet/pocketbook, we realize that shelling out cash at a baseball game is all a part of the “experience,” so we’re going to go ahead and throw our official endorsement behind the Olde Philadelphia (pictured) on account of its whimsical spelling of “olde” and use of a poppyseed roll. But we can’t help feeling that “Citizens Bank Frank” has a nice ring to it… a definite missed opportunity for both rhyme and additional corporate branding. Anyhow, go here to vote for your favorite. After you cast your vote, the site doesn’t show you which dog is currently in the lead, so it looks like we’ll all have to wait until April 4th to find out the winner.
