Wine Glass Experimentation (For Science’s Sake)

If you are partial to the idea of being part of (not very) scientific studies that involve drinking wine and free wine glasses, this is probably worth checking out. Hudson Beach Glass, a glassblowing studio in Old City, is looking for an answer to an interesting question: Is your wine tastier/better in a glass with a stem, or without one? Their hypothesis is that the stem is utterly superfluous. To help solve this quandary you should show up there any Tuesday between 6:30 and 8:30 pm until the end of August. You will get to drink two glasses of wine- one stemmed and one stemless, and they will be periodically checking the temperature of your wine. Afterwards, you tell ‘em which one you liked best, you get to take that cup home, and they’ll compile all their data on their blog. And, once they’ve got the data, I imagine they will utilize the rest of the scientific method, and draw some very valuable and important conclusions (sorta.) Sounds kinda fun though, and stemless glasses are, at the very least, undeniably cooler.

Stemless glasses are not cooler. Your hand warms up the wine. Plus you get dirty fingerprints all over the glass which obscures the color of the wine. Effect on taste is probably negligible.
