You know, for months, we’d been thinking that the Pickleback — a double-shot of pickle juice and Jameson, introduced to the Philly market, we believe, at PYT — had the honors locked down for Official Drink Of Summer 2010. (If we are to be honest, though, the honor should have been carried away by the Miller Lite Vortex Bottle, though we think they’d revoke our Snobby Asshole Food Blogger license if we dared speak the name of that particular love.) But then we came across the John Daly. So named for the famously intoxicated golfer — and with deference to the beloved Arnold Palmer — the drink is a mix of Santa Cruz Lemonade and Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka. Also known as “The 19th Hole,” we’re told that those ask-for-them-by-name ingredients are absolutely key here, so don’t try jerry-rigging an Arctic Splash and Lemon Citron mess here. (That, friends, is what is known as The Fishtown Bridesmaid. Yes, we just made that up. Don’t try it. It will be gross.) When done the right way, the John Daly is an effervescent and boozy delight. We still haven’t found out, however, how many you need to consume before you think those pants are a good idea. We’ll keep trying, though.

The Continental in Old City has been serving this drink, by the sane name since last summer
