This summer will see the opening of Federal Donuts on 2nd Street in South Philly. Serving up donuts, coffee, and fried chicken, Federal Donuts will be a mostly take-out shop open from 7AM-9PM, seven days a week. Chefs Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook are partnering with Thomas Henneman and Bob Logue of BODHi Coffee, and food writer Felecia D’Ambrosio to open the shop. The aim is to provide “the ultimate comfort food,” according to Solomonov, who has had his own success at Zahav and Percy St. BBQ.
Federal Donuts is going to provide a number of signature coffees and a variety of baked goods, like Glazed, Chocolate, Key Lime, Vanilla Cardamon Custard, and Chocolate Blood Orange Cream donuts, to name a few. Their chicken will come in options too, such as Classic Crunchy, Black Garlic and Date Molasses, and other fruit glazes. BODHi Coffee, on 410 S. 2nd St., offers their Stumptown Roasters beans from Brooklyn, NY, to the mix as well. The focus is take-out, but the shop has ten seats for those that want to sit in, and the shop will have a chicken delivery service as well.
Federal Donuts, 1219 South Second Street. Opens summer 2011.
