Support Japan At Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale – Philadelphia Edition

Philadelphia’s chapter of the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale, hosted by a group who call themselves the “International Vegan Conspiracy” is taking place Saturday, April 30, 12-4pm at Wooden Shoe Books – 704 South Street. The group is raising money for AmeriCares, one of the most effective organizations at providing humanitarian relief in Japan.

“The Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale is an annual event that is literally worldwide, from Australia to Argentina to Uganda. During about a two-week period, people and groups all over the world hold bake sales and donate all proceeds to a worthy cause. From April 23 through May 1, groups from across the globe will hold bake sales to raise money for the people and animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

The Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale began in 2009, when nearly 100 groups participated and raised $25,000 for a variety of causes. In 2010, even more participants, spanning six continents, raised more than $40,000 for various causes, primarily disaster relief in Haiti. The Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale was featured in 2010 on CNN.com, and it was named the 2009 “Veg Event of the Year” by VegNews Magazine.”
