On July 9th, from 3-7PM at Piazza at Schmidts, the 1st Annual Philadelphia Vendy Awards will pit the city’s best street vendors against each other. The event will benefit The Food Trust, a nonprofit that strives to make healthy food available to all.
Last year, three Philadelphia vendors participated in the New York Vendys, where it was announced the event would debut in Philly this year. Sean Basinski, Director of the Street Vendor Project at the Urban Justice Center said, “From cheese steaks to Caribbean food, we know that Philadelphia has their own city flavors, and we’re excited for these vendors to strut their stuff at their own Vendy Awards.”
At least it wasn’t when I was there this past year.
