Oh Staphmeal, we always knew it would come to this.
Earlier today, Dan Gross reported that Staphmeal was being sued by Georges Perrier and Shola Olunloyo (whom Staphmeal called “racist” and “a big, black, dick” respectively, because who doesn’t love irony). Perrier’s attorney Jonathan Cohen said, “It’s not our intention to infringe on the protected right of free speech, but it is our intention to hold people accountable for defamation.”
Due to the lawsuit, Staphmeal came out(or was forced out depending on who you believe) as Joshua Scott Albert. According to Foobooz, Albert has worked at Amis, A.Kitchen and Zavino.
But the story is far from over. According to multiple reports/comments on Foobooz and Staphmeal, Albert is also the disgruntled guy who flipped the tables at the Mad Decent After Party (video above) because, he claimed, Diplo is a homophobe. Albert, or as we’ve taken to calling him, “The Food World’s Michael Calamari,” has also supposedly spit in the face of a co-worker (once again from Staphmeal’s comments section, which is beginning to press the borders of the Geneva Conventions of internet commenting).
And finally (yes, there’s more) we’ve had a report for a while that Staphmeal was deleting and simply not posting comments. For a guy who loves freedom of speech so much that he hid behind it all this time, he really doesn’t like not censoring people’s opinions. Like this, for instance:

So Mr. Albert, if you’re reading this, feel free to comment. We will not censor it, and although your track record of spelling and grammar might trigger our spam filters, we’ll keep our eyes peeled for your words. And we want to hear what you really have to say, not just canned, name-calling nonsense, so we’ll beat you to it. We at Phoodie are both racists and homophobes.* Let’s see what else you got.

I worked with this kid at Fork, I remember him as one of those cocky types who worked in New York restaurants and has to let everyone know it, as if being a waiter there is more impressive than being one here. Anyway he got fired for being an asshole or generally shitty at his job (probably both) and then proceeded to try and spit in the face of our manager at the time, who is a totally awesome person and was great to work under. He missed her face, I think it landed on her clothes somewhere.
He worked at Supper for awhile, before someone there heard the spit story and they fired his ass too (the person he spit on has been in the philly restaurant biz a long time and is known and well loved by many).
I also heard a funny story about him calling a police officer a pig and running into a bar (i think Pub and Kitchen?) to hide in their bathroom. The cop went in after him.
When I first heard that the anonymous blogger from staphmeal revealed themselves ALREADY, I remember thinking that the person doesn’t have much to say, and wants to get all the attention they can from this blog before the buzz wears off, or they run out of shit to talk about. This whole crusade for 2% of tips that the restaurant holds is hardly groundbreaking journalism, especially when you look at how dishwashers and line cooks are paid for their hard(er) work.
Now that I see who the author is, I can say with confidence that I was right. Desperately seeking attention, even negative attention, seems to be his major pastime based off of the brief time I knew him. Looks like he’s finally getting it.
This guys a fuckin tool. He claims hes an anarchist but just flips off random cops and gets beat up for it. Ive heard various bad things about the way he treats girls. He has no friends and shows up to every bar alone. I kinda feel bad for him. Oh and hes not the “michael calamari. Hes the less talented perez hilton.
This kid also spit in the face of a fellow server at Twenty Manning Grill.
